Public Bank continues with its efforts to help Malaysians affected by the recent floods with its contribution of RM100,000-00 to Yayasan Nanyang Press in aid of schools damaged by the floods.
During the presentation of the contribution, Tan Sri Dato' Sri Dr. Teh Hong Piow, Founder and Chairman of Public Bank said, "We would like to congratulate Nanyang Siang Pau and the Yayasan Nanyang Press for this noble effort which I am sure will help the affected schools to repair or replace damaged equipment and buildings so that the students can resume normal classes as soon as possible and reduce the impact of the disruption to their education."
Tan Sri Teh said this contribution is one of Public Bank's initiatives to support the Government's efforts to assist the communities which have been badly affected by the extraordinary floods. "We sympathise with the affected schools and communities. This contribution is part of Public Bank's corporate social responsibility to assist our fellow Malaysians in times of need," added Tan Sri Teh.
In addition to this contribution, Public Bank had already launched several other major initiatives to assist families and businesses affected by the floods to get back on their feet. These include the launching of Public Bank's Relief Assistance Programme for Flood Victims. In addition, Public Bank jointly with Lonpac Insurance has set-up a RM1 million Special Relief Payment Fund for Public Bank's housing loan customers affected by the floods who are covered only by fire insurance. Public Bank has also made relief payments to take care of its staff whose houses or properties have been damaged by the floods.
Public Bank is also taking proactive steps to promote Bank Negara Malaysia's Special Relief Guarantee Facility for businesses affected by the floods. "To further increase awareness by the affected businesses of the Special Relief Guarantee Facility, we will take up advertisements in major newspapers starting this Friday to publicise as widely as possible the availability of this low interest special credit facility at Public Bank branches. We have simplified our loan application processes for the fund. We will ensure that all applications will be expediently processed and approved to assist the flood affected businesses," added Tan Sri Teh.
